This introductory course explores the fundamentals of oil painting through observational practice, working both from direct observation and photographic references. Students develop essential skills in color mixing, proportion, composition, and the step-by-step process of building a painting. Through still life, landscape, and portraiture, students learn to observe and translate forms, values, and colors onto the canvas while gaining an understanding of the materials, techniques, and expressive possibilities of oil paint.
